Serving Monterey, Santa Cruz,
and San Benito counties

Welcome to the FPA Monterey Bay Chapter website and thank you for visiting us. Please peruse our pages and visit us at a chapter meeting. Our meetings are the third Thursday of every odd-numbered month. Our first meeting will be January 17, 2008. Our chapter serves financial professionals in three counties – Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito. While we are a small chapter, our members are active on national, regional and local levels of the FPA.

Here are some of the local programs we are involved in:

Our Literacy Program is headed by Cris Cabanillas, CFP® . We train high school teachers in the program which integrates financial literacy into high school seniors’ economics classes. Upon completion of the course, students are encouraged to take an exam. Students who successfully complete the exam are awarded a certificate which they can include in resumes or college applications. Topics range from budgeting, saving, taxation, insurance and investing. The program is currently in two high schools in the Monterey area, with more to come in 2008.

The Robert A. Hewitt Scholarship is awarded to chapter member students in a Certified Financial Planning Program. Students please request an application from our Chapter Executive.

We have scheduled three study groups this year. They are informal groups which are given a case study to discuss the possible issues and solutions. The study groups are free and open to chapter members

Our showcase event is The Second Annual Central Coast Multidisciplinary Workshop on October 24, 2008. Here we have multidisciplinary teams of Financial Planning Professionals, Tax Professionals, Estate Planning Attorneys, Insurance Professionals and other allied professionals in the financial arena working together on an engagement-like case study. The Workshop is a great opportunity to network with our allied professionals and to educate each other about what we do.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Nancy Bernaldo or Elaine Kiernan for more information about our chapter.
